MIT Enterprise Forum Mission

We inform, connect, and coach technology entrepreneurs — enabling them to rapidly transform ideas into world-changing companies. We are a global network of local organizations, inspired by MIT, and open to the world.

History

The MIT Enterprise Forum (MITEF) was founded in 1971 by John Jenkins, an engineer who graduated from MIT. We were perhaps the first organization created to foster entrepreneurship. Seven years later, a national organization was established by MIT, which today consists of 28 chapters. This global network is managed by Technology Review, an independent media company owned by MIT with a global readership of 2.6 million.

Program

MITEF is open to all and operated by volunteers. The purpose: to support technology-related entrepreneurs start and grow innovative businesses. Our programming features events that deliver insights and opportunities to build relationships between entrepreneurs and investors / corporate executives who may become customers, strategic partners, or acquirers. We take pride in delivering high caliber programming that provides insightful thought leadership on the future of industries and entrepreneurial business trends. Our events attract an eclectic mix of entrepreneurs, investors, academics and business executives.

Paul N. Bowles III As a partner in Fitzpatrick & Hunt’s Manhattan office, Paul devotes his law practice to helping large and small companies, individuals, and artists thrive and excel. Paul’s core practice is complex product liability and commercial litigation, chiefly in the aviation and transportation industries. Tracy Chadwell Founding Partner 1843 Capital. 1843 Capital is venture capital firm focused on early stage investments in technology and CPG companies with at least one female founder. Tracy has over 14 years experience in venture capital and private equity. She began making investments in female founders through her personal entity Coyote Capital. Prior to this, Tracy was a Partner of a growth capital fund – Baker Capital which had more than $1 Billion under management. Tracy has a broad network in the female founder community. She is a frequent speaker at events like the Wonder Woman Summit, and is a frequent judge of startup competitions. Most recently she was a judge for the Cornell (Johnson) Business School Women in Tech Competition. She is featured in a chapter of the book “The Internet of Women” by Nada Anid, Laurie Cantileno, Monique Morrow, and Rahilla Zafar. Caryn Effron Caryn is a commercial real estate executive, angel investor, and entrepreneur. With a career spanning over 25 years in the real estate industry, she has financed over $1 billion in transactions. Caryn sits at the intersection of a number of communities that are committed to changing the status quo around gender parity. She is passionate about education and sits on the boards of Say Yes to Education, and ScriptEd.Org. As an active angel, Caryn invests in seed-stage start-ups as well as early-stage funds. She is Managing Director of Ackman-Ziff Real Estate Group, the industry’s pre-eminent boutique real estate capital advisory firm. Caryn is a co-founder of Parity – Partners and Founder of GoGirl Finance, an online community that empowers geared towards empowering women in all stages of life to become financially confident and knowledgeable.

Van Espahbodi, co-founder and partner at Starburst Accelerator Van Espahbodi is co-founder and partner at Starburst Accelerator, bringing together operators, suppliers, inventors, and venture investors to accelerate innovation in the aerospace industry. He is committed to lowering the barriers for startups to introduce cutting edge technology into the aviation and space supply chain. For 15+ years, Van has worked with governments and aerospace suppliers in business development leadership roles at Raytheon and the British air navigation service provider. He has helped shape regulations and develop key segments of airspace safety and infrastructure and believes true innovation is a result of collaboration between legacy industry and entrepreneurs. Prior to that, he served as legislative aide for U.S. Congressman Adam Schiff and U.S. Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Michael Flannery, Managing Partner and Founder of Redwood Partners Michael is the Managing Partner and Founder of Redwood Partners, an international executive search and venture firm he founded in 1994. The firm has developed a unique skill set that helps entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and corporations build next-generation technology ventures. Over the years, Redwood has developed ways to foster these young businesses with sister seed funds and acceleration services. Michael and his team run executive searches for “C” level executives and the core executive team that will drive the overall business. In addition, Redwood has developed practices around Board development, both the placement of key Independent directors as well as advisory Boards that have been selected early on to help the venture gain traction early. Emily Pachuta, Managing Director Emily Pachuta, Managing Director, is Head of Marketing for the US Wealth Advisory business. In this role, Ms. Pachuta is responsible for setting the US retail marketing strategy designed to accelerate the firm’s growth in the US. Ms. Pachuta joined BlackRock from UBS where she was Head of Client Marketing & Investor Insights, responsible for the end-to-end client experience and investor research. Prior to that, Ms. Pachuta was Vice President at Lincoln Financial Group where she built and led the Strategic & Product Marketing organization, as well as the company’s consumer insights department. Ralph V. Pagano, EQUITY PARTNER Ralph’s practice is diverse, spanning complex legal matters involving technology, aviation, motor vehicles, premises liability, intellectual property, insurance, and commercial disputes. Ralph has represented a wide range of clients including some of the most prestigious Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies in the world, to pro bono clients that need a voice. As a member of the Bar of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, Ralph routinely handles matters in those jurisdictions as counsel of record. In addition, he has represented clients in all aspects of litigation in other jurisdictions throughout the United States. Marc Segan is an inventor who has created hundreds of products, from Hallmark’s first-ever musical greeting card to Fisher Price’s Triple Arcade game table. Meryl Lynn Unger, Corporate Partner at Katsky Korins LLP Meryl Lynn Unger has been a partner in the corporate and business law department of Katsky Korins LLP, a boutique full service New York law firm, for over twenty-five years. Charlotte Walker, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, Doolli, Inc. Charlotte’s current venture, Doolli, is a cloud-based database application platform that is enabling organizations to do what they could never do before in a fraction of the time and resources. This is not Charlotte’s first new venture. She has been a principal and co-founder in software startups such as MOCA Systems, Purchased and Infratab. She has advised many others and she is committed to supporting and breaking down the barriers to capital and resources for start-up and early stage entrepreneurs.
